Nautilus International is an independent, influential, global trade union and professional organisation committed to delivering high quality, cost-effective services to members, and welfare support to seafarers, their dependants and other maritime professionals.

The organisation represents 20,000 maritime professionals including ship masters, officers, cadets and industry personnel such as ship pilots, inland navigation workers, vessel traffic services operators, harbour masters, seafarers in the oil and gas industry, and shore-based staff.

Nautilus members work at sea and ashore, and the Union has members in all the waterborne transport sectors.

Nautilus International works at international, national and company levels to negotiate on such key elements as wages, leave, tour lengths, sick pay, safety and onboard facilities.

Nautilus International traces its history back more than 160 years to 1857 when the Mercantile Marine Service Association was founded in the UK in response to the provisions of the 1850 Merchant Shipping Act.
